Geo Pulse #54 — Clustering GEOs by language to scale faster
Theme of the week: group countries by the work you can reuse.
How to build reusable language clusters:
→ Group by shared written language, then split by dialect risk: Spanish LatAm vs. Spain need different copy; Portugal vs. Brazil even more.
→ Flag the 'false friends' — words that flip meaning across the same language (coger, cualquier vocabulary that's neutral in one region, vulgar in another).
→ Build one base translation per cluster, then a thin 'overrides' layer per country for slang, currency, and payment logos.
→ Order rollout by market size inside the cluster so your biggest win funds the rest.
→ Reuse creatives within a cluster but always re-test the CTA — it's the cheapest thing to localize and the highest-leverage.
→ Keep a glossary per cluster, not per country, to avoid drift.
Reference: dialect-risk guidance from Nimdzi's language-cluster research. Base layer plus overrides scales cleanest.
