Seasonal traffic spikes don't just happen. You have to build for them months in advance.
Google needs time to crawl, index, and rank pages before a seasonal event. If you publish a Black Friday deals page on November 15, you're already late. The shops ranking for those terms published their pages in August or September and kept them live year-round with updated content.
The strategy:
- Identify your top 10 seasonal keywords from last year's Search Console data
- Build or update pages 3-4 months before the season
- Keep the URLs permanent — no date-based URLs like /black-friday-2024
- Add a breadcrumb and internal links from main categories
- Update the page content each year rather than creating new URLs
Year-over-year, a permanent seasonal page accumulates backlinks, signals, and ranking history. A new page starts from zero every time.
