Ch. 4: I Picked the Most Boring Niche I Could Find
Everyone in my Discord was chasing AI tools and crypto. I picked commercial floor mats. Anti-fatigue mats, entrance mats, kitchen mats for restaurants. Search volume looked pathetic — top keyword 2,400/mo.
But I'd run the math differently. Affiliate floor mats run $80-300 with 8% commissions, the buyers are businesses spending OPM, and exactly zero affiliate sites covered it well — the results were manufacturer pages and Amazon. KD on my main terms: 4 to 11.
Month 7: 6,800 sessions, $1,240 revenue. Not viral. But I ranked #1 for 30+ terms because I had no real competition, and conversion on B2B buyers ran 9% vs the 3% I'd seen in gadgets.
Lesson banked: low search volume plus high order value plus zero competent competition beats a hot niche where 400 people already out-resource you.
