<b>"This network is just better optimized"</b>
Granted: optimization is real. Better floors, smarter bid throttling, fresher demand partners — these move numbers honestly.
But watch what "optimized" usually means in screenshots: more units. The new network dropped two extra in-content slots and an anchor. Your RPM rose because <i>ad density</i> rose, and you're now trading session length and bounce for it — a cost that shows up in Search Console three months later, not the revenue dashboard tomorrow.
🚩 Hidden variable: ads-per-pageview between the two periods. If it went from 5 to 8, the network didn't optimize — it just turned up the volume on your behalf.
Normalize to revenue-per-ad-slot before you celebrate. Same earnings on fewer ads is the actual win.
Not saying density is bad — saying the comparison is rigged.
