WordPress accounts for 43% of all websites on the internet — but most of those sites are slow, insecure, and barely optimized.
The difference between a well-built WP site and a poorly built one isn't the theme. It's the decisions made before a single plugin is installed:
- Choosing a lightweight theme (GeneratePress, Kadence, Blocksy) over feature-bloated ones
- Installing only the plugins you genuinely need
- Using a proper caching layer from day one
- Keeping the plugin count under 15 where possible
Every plugin you add is a potential conflict, a security surface, and a performance hit. Audit your installs quarterly. If a plugin hasn't been updated in 12 months, treat it as a liability — not an asset.
WordPress's flexibility is its biggest strength and its biggest trap. Build deliberately.
