The two-branch gym that thought reviews were shared

The two-branch gym that thought reviews were shared

Meet a gym owner with two locations across town. His flagship had 300 glowing reviews; his second branch, a year old, had 12. He assumed the brand's reputation would lift both. In the pack, the new branch was getting crushed.

The myth that sank him: reviews pool across a brand. They don't. Each profile ranks on its own reviews, its own proximity, its own signals. The new branch was a near-stranger competing against established locals, and the flagship's 300 reviews did nothing for it.

Most multi-location owners discover this too late, after assuming the brand carries every pin.

We treated the new branch as its own business from scratch: a dedicated review push aimed only at members of that location, branch-specific photos, a unique local landing page, and citations built for that exact address — not copies of the flagship's.

Three weeks in, the second branch was still buried.

Then its own review count and local signals crossed a threshold, and it found its footing.

New-branch reviews: from 12 to 78 in two months. Pack position there: from 7 to 2. Trial sign-ups doubled.

The lesson: in multi-location SEO, every pin starts from zero — reviews and authority don't pool across the brand, so each location has to earn its own.
