Want a "safe" pace? STEAL your competitor's, don't invent one
Guessing a velocity from blog posts is amateur hour. Reverse-engineer the people already beating you:
— Pick the top 3 ranking domains for your money term.
— Export their new referring domains by month for the last year.
— Take the median monthly gain across all three. THAT is your defensible ceiling.
— Match their anchor mix and link-type spread while you're at it.
If the sites winning your niche add 40 domains a month, then 40 is "natural" for that niche by definition. Google's normal is set by your competition, not by some 2014 forum thread.
Who's actually pulled competitor velocity before buying links? Or are you all still guessing?
