Stop eyeballing the Ahrefs graph and calling it "velocity analysis"
Ninety percent of you screenshot the referring-domains chart and guess. Do it properly:
— Pull NEW referring domains per month, not total. Total always goes up, it tells you nothing.
— Strip out lost/regained churn so you see real net growth.
— Overlay your publishing calendar. Spikes that match content launches = healthy. Spikes that match nothing = investigate.
— Compare your slope to two ranking competitors in the SAME niche, not a generic benchmark.
The number that matters isn't "how many" but "why now." A spike with a cause is fine. A flat line with no cause means you're invisible.
What does YOUR new-domains-per-month curve look like? Be honest.
