The one permalink setting to change first
A permalink is simply the web address of a page, like yoursite.com/about-us.
By default, fresh WordPress sometimes uses ugly links like yoursite.com/?p=123. Those numbers mean nothing to readers or to Google.
How to fix it (takes 20 seconds):
— In your dashboard, hover over "Settings"
— Click "Permalinks"
— Choose "Post name"
— Click "Save Changes"
Now your links read like yoursite.com/my-first-recipe. Clean, memorable, and search engines understand them better.
Important: do this BEFORE your site gets visitors. Changing it later can break old links unless you set up redirects.
Don't worry, on a brand-new site there's nothing to break yet.
In plain words: set permalinks to "Post name" on day one for readable, search-friendly web addresses.
