The hook isn't always the first line, and that fixed mine

Everyone treats "hook" and "first line" as the same thing. So I crammed everything into line one: "This $50 tool made me $9,000 and I'll show you exactly how right now today." Stuffed. 3s retention 70%.

Then I split it across the first three seconds, building tension instead of dumping it. Line one: "I almost didn't buy this $50 tool." Line two (second 2): "It made me $9,000." The pause between them WAS the hook.

3s retention 84%. The micro-pause let the number hit alone.

The lesson: a hook is a structure across seconds, not a single packed sentence. Sometimes the hook is the silence between two lines.
