The two halves of your WordPress site
Every WordPress site is made of two parts, and knowing this saves a lot of confusion.
1. The files. These are the program itself, your theme, and your plugins. (A plugin is just an add-on that gives WordPress new abilities.) They live on your hosting like apps on a phone.
2. The database. This is a filing cabinet that holds your actual words, page settings, and comments. Your blog posts aren't "files", they're rows in this cabinet.
Why it matters: a real backup needs BOTH halves. Copying just the files leaves your writing behind; copying just the database leaves your design behind.
Don't worry, good backup plugins grab both automatically.
In plain words: WordPress = files (the machinery) + database (your words). Back up both, always.
