Myth. The "I loved your video on X" opener is now the <i>most</i> recognizable spam tell, because every cold-email tool auto-generates it. Your prospect has read 40 of them this week. Pattern-matching beats them all to delete.
It's not that personalization fails — it's that <i>surface</i> personalization signals a tool, not a human. Reference a decision they made, not a thing they posted. The trigger isn't flattery, it's specificity nobody could scrape.
