The Article schema checklist that survives the Top Stories bar
Google relaxed AMP for Top Stories, but the structured-data bar quietly went up. As of this week, thin Article markup is the difference between eligibility and invisibility for publishers. Ship every news URL with this set:
— headline under 110 characters — Google truncates and may disqualify longer
— Both datePublished and dateModified in ISO 8601 with timezone
— author as an @type: Person object with a url, never a bare string
— publisher with a logo on a transparent or solid background, sized per spec
— A real image array at 1x1, 4x3, and 16x9 — multiple ratios, not one
What it means for you: bare-string authors are now an E-E-A-T tell that both Search and AI engines penalize. Watch this — author entity linking via sameAs is the next bar publishers will be asked to clear.
