How exclusive voucher codes leak—and the 5 checks that expose the source
Voucher leakage starts when a code meant for one partner becomes searchable, syndicated, or reused elsewhere. Common paths: browser extensions, deal aggregators, expired landing pages, employee sharing, and affiliates copying codes from checkout flows.
Audit every incident with five checks:
1. First-seen URL and timestamp.
2. Referrer, subID, and click path.
3. Visibility in page source, feeds, or email.
4. Matching copy and tracking parameters.
5. Redemption patterns by partner, device, and geography.
Do not blame the site that surfaced the code. Separate discovery from distribution, compare the earliest evidence with approved placements, and preserve raw click and order records. Prevent repeats with unique codes, placement rules, expiry controls, and a registry for owner, channel, status, and evidence. Keep private codes out of indexable pages and generic feeds.
Bottom line: treat leakage as an attribution investigation, not a takedown race. Document the path first; enforce partner rules only when the evidence supports it.
