Affiliate disclosures in email sequences: why every single message requires clarity
Compliance in email marketing isn't a "one and done" task. The FTC requires disclosures to be clear and conspicuous. If a subscriber opens the fifth email in your sequence, they must see the disclosure there, not rely on a disclaimer sent weeks prior.
Placement is critical. Burying a tiny note in a footer often fails the "conspicuous" test. Place the disclosure above or immediately adjacent to the first affiliate link in the body text to ensure it is noticed.
Consistency across the automation chain prevents legal friction. Whether it is a welcome series or a nurture sequence, the rule remains: if there is a financial relationship behind a recommendation, the reader must be informed before the click happens.
Treat every automated email as a standalone piece of content. Including a brief, transparent statement in every message with affiliate offers maintains audience trust and satisfies regulatory requirements without extra risk.
