Myth: "Get an exclusive and you've got no competition — the chats treat exclusivity as an automatic moat."

Exclusivity means no other affiliate runs <i>that exact offer link</i>. It does not mean no competition. The same advertiser usually runs the same product through a dozen other offers across other networks, the same vertical is crowded regardless, and your audience is being hit by near-identical funnels from everyone else. The moat is narrower than the word suggests.

Exclusives also tend to carry strings: higher minimum volume commitments, the advertiser watching your quality more closely, and the offer pulled the moment you can't hit cap. You can end up locked into delivering volume on an offer that's mediocre for your sources, just to keep a status that wasn't worth much.

The genuine edge of an exclusive is data and stability — a direct line to the advertiser, cleaner reporting, fewer middlemen scrubbing your leads, and terms that don't shift because someone else's traffic tanked the offer. That's real, but it's an operational edge, not a no-competition fantasy.

Reality: an exclusive locks the link, not the market — its value is cleaner data and fewer middlemen, not an absence of rivals.
