Pattern interrupts don't have to be loud
The myth: pattern interrupt means a jump, a zoom, a SCREAM, a whip-pan. I did all four in my first 2 seconds. Felt like an energy drink ad. 3s retention: 88%. 10s retention: 44%. The loud open exhausted people.
Then I tried a quiet interrupt. I started mid-sentence, calm, like you'd walked in late: "...so that's when I deleted the entire funnel." No zoom. No sound effect. Just a sentence that makes no sense without context.
3s retention dropped a hair to 85%. But 10s retention jumped to 71%.
The result: views doubled, 38k to 81k, on the calm version.
The lesson: a pattern interrupt is a break in expectation, not volume. "...that's when I deleted everything" interrupts the brain harder than any whip-pan.
