<b>Your backup dashboard's green checkmark is the most dangerous thing in your stack.</b>
It says 'success' when the job ran, not when the data is good. It cannot tell you the dump silently truncated, the disk filled mid-write, or a table was skipped.
Monitoring backup completion is monitoring the wrong thing. You should be alerting on backup size deltas, checksum mismatches, and failed restore tests.
A backup that 'succeeds' every night while quietly shrinking to nothing is the textbook horror story.
Trust restores, not checkmarks. If you only watch the green light, you're flying blind. Fight me in the comments.
