Your video thumbnail is doing the selling
Today's lesson: in a video carousel (the swipeable row of videos), people choose with their eyes in half a second. The thumbnail — the still picture on the video — is your shop window, and a blurry auto-frame loses.
Think of book covers on a table. Nobody reads the back yet; they pick up the cover that pulls them in.
Make yours pull:
1. Use one clear subject and big, readable text — tiny words vanish at thumbnail size
2. Show a face or the actual result (the finished cake, the fixed phone)
3. Keep it honest — a misleading thumbnail gets clicks but loses trust and watch time
A good thumbnail can beat a higher-ranked video right beside it.
Try this: shrink your thumbnail to phone size on screen — can you still read the text and tell what it's about? 🎓
