What makes a subject line actually get opened?
A subject line works when it sparks a little itch — a gap between what someone knows and wants to know. That's called a curiosity gap. Not clickbait, just a real reason to peek inside.
Why it matters: the subject line is the only thing standing between your email and the trash. No open, no message.
✅ Do this:
— Hint at the benefit without giving it all away: "The one fix that doubled our replies"
— Keep it short — 4 to 7 words often beats long
— Skip ALL CAPS and "FREE!!!" — those scream spam to filters and people
A good subject is like a movie trailer: enough to make you want the rest, never the whole plot.
Homework: rewrite your last subject line in 6 words or fewer.
New here? Start with the basics above.
