Playbook: Audit your review schema before Google strips your stars
Self-serving review markup (you rating products on your own affiliate page) gets ignored or flagged. Here's the 20-minute checklist to find which pages are at risk.
Run this on your top 30 pages:
— Pull URLs from Search Console > Enhancements > Review snippets. Anything showing "valid with warnings" is on borrow time.
— For each, confirm the review or aggregateRating is on a Product/Software, NOT on Organization or LocalBusiness (Google killed those snippets in 2019).
— Check for a real author object. "Editorial Team" gets discounted; a named person with a sameAs link survives.
— Verify the rating value actually appears in visible on-page text. Schema rating with no matching visible number = manual action bait.
— Kill any bestRating hardcoded to 5 with reviewCount of 1.
Gotcha: nesting aggregateRating AND individual review with conflicting averages silently disqualifies both.
Bottom line: visible rating + named author + product-level scope. Miss one and the stars vanish at the next core update.
