Open Search Console and check both reports separately: Manual actions shows policy-related problems, while Security issues flags possible hacking, malware, or social engineering. Read the affected examples and the issue description before changing anything. A ranking drop alone is not proof that either report applies.
For a manual action, audit the affected pages and the sitewide pattern behind them. Remove or fix the violating content, review internal links and templates, then confirm the fix across similar URLs. Request a review only after the documented issue is resolved; explain what changed and how you checked the rest of the site.
For a security issue, treat the site as potentially compromised. Restrict access if needed, preserve logs, remove injected code or unsafe files, update vulnerable software, and check users, redirects, and hidden pages. Recheck representative URLs after cleanup, then request a security review. Do not rely on a single homepage check.
Use the reports as diagnosis, not as a reason to make random SEO changes. Fix the root cause, verify the scope, document the work, and then monitor indexing and search performance for recovery.
