Mega menus dilute every link they contain — that's the tradeoff nobody prices in
Controversial but: a mega menu putting 120 links sitewide feels like 'great internal linking.' It's the opposite. Every page now splits its outgoing equity across 120 boilerplate nav links before a single body link gets a slice. You didn't distribute authority — you atomized it into nothing.
Mega menus are a UX tool for big catalogs. They are an anti-tool for PageRank flow. If you run one, your contextual links have to work twice as hard to overcome the dilution.
Did you ever count how many sitewide links your mega menu added before judging your distribution?
