"Just be authentic — but what does that even mean?"
Q: "Everyone says the secret is to just be authentic. I post real stuff and it flops. What am I missing?"
Short answer: "Just be authentic" is the most useless advice in personal branding. Authenticity isn't posting whatever crosses your mind — it's being consistent and specific about a point of view (your POV, the angle you actually believe). Random honesty without a thread reads as noise.
The myth tells you content is failing because you're not real enough. Usually it's failing because it's unfocused. People don't follow your realness — they follow what you reliably stand for.
Authentic and aimless are different things. You want real opinions pointed in one consistent direction.
Try this today: Write down one belief about your topic that some peers would disagree with. Post that. That's authenticity with a spine.
