Myth: countering twice looks greedy

Myth: countering twice looks greedy

New negotiators fear that a second counter-offer will scare the brand off. Brand managers expect 2-3 rounds — it's normal.

Why the myth hurts: stopping after one counter leaves money on the table and signals you'll fold fast next time.

Simple example: they offer $400. You counter $700. They say $550. Stopping there feels safe — but "$600 and we have a deal" usually works, because they've already mentally committed.

A gentle script: "We're close. Meet me at $600 and I'll lock the dates today."

Your move: plan three numbers before you reply — your ask, your target, and your walk-away. Then a second counter never feels scary.
