Rewarded video viewability: MOAT flagged 12% 'completions' that never rendered
A brand running rewarded video as an awareness buy assumed completion = viewed. They added MOAT (Oracle) measurement on top of the SDK completion event.
Result: 12% of SDK-reported completions had viewability under 50% — ads finished in a backgrounded webview or off-screen container in two SSPs.
They cut those two SSPs and renegotiated the rest to viewable-completion billing.
✓ SDK 'completed' is a playback event, not a human-saw-it event
✓ Viewable-completion billing saved ~9% of wasted spend
✗ MOAT adds a measurement fee per impression
✗ Some in-app SSPs still won't accept third-party viewability tags
Verdict: never equate rewarded completion with viewability — measure both.
Best for: brand buyers using rewarded for reach.
