Modern ransomware hunts your backups first, then encrypts your site for the screenshot.
The operators are not amateurs. They map your network, find the backup server, delete shadow copies, and corrupt your repository — sometimes weeks before they reveal themselves.
By the time you see the ransom note, your last 60 days of 'backups' may already be poisoned.
The only thing that survives this is immutable, write-once, or genuinely air-gapped storage they cannot reach with stolen credentials.
If an attacker who owns your admin password can also delete your backups, you're paying the ransom. Fight me in the comments.
