Keyword gap and content gap point to different work 40% of the time
Two 'gap' reports get confused. Keyword gap = terms competitors rank for and you don't. Content gap = topics your existing pages could rank for but don't cover. We ran both on one site.
— Keyword gap flagged 1,100 net-new terms needing new pages: ▇▇▇▇▇▇
— Content gap flagged 380 additions to pages already ranking page 2-3: ▇▇▇
— Only 60% of recommended actions overlapped
— Content gap wins on speed: improving a page-2 page beats building from zero
So what: run content gap first for fast lifts on pages you already own, then keyword gap for the expansion roadmap. Building new pages while page-2 pages starve is the most common misallocation.
Benchmark of the week: closing a content gap on an existing page-2 ranker returns traffic ~3x faster than a comparable net-new page.
