Auditing your host for PHP and stack rot
They told you: "fully managed and up to date." Then why is your site on PHP 7.4, dead since 2022?
— Run php -v over SSH or drop a phpinfo() file. Check it against php.net EOL dates.
— Confirm you can self-select the version, or are you stuck on their default?
— Check the database: MySQL 5.7 is also EOL. Ask what they actually run.
— Look for forced legacy stacks that block modern frameworks.
Follow the money: upgrading thousands of accounts costs labor, so they stall until you're breached.
Reality: "managed" often means managed to stay cheap, not current.
