The brewery that ranked wider by being searched by name
Meet a craft brewery near Asheville, strong locally, but stuck just outside the pack for the broad 'brewery near me' searches that bring in tourists and newcomers. They'd optimized the obvious things and plateaued.
The missing ingredient was one most local guides skip: branded search volume. When lots of people search your business by name — 'Foothill Brewing' rather than 'brewery' — Google reads that as prominence, real-world demand, a brand that matters. Prominence is a core map-pack factor, and branded searches feed it.
They had almost no off-Google footprint driving name searches. So we worked the other channels: events that got the name into local press, a collaboration that generated articles, social campaigns built around the brand name, partnerships with nearby venues listing them by name.
This is slow. There's no dashboard that flips green in a week.
Over about three months, name searches climbed — and as prominence rose, so did the generic rankings that prominence feeds. They moved into the pack for 'brewery near me,' and tap-room visits from new customers rose by roughly 40 percent.
The lesson: getting people to search your name lifts you on the generic terms too — prominence built off-Google flows back into the map pack.
