The checkboxes that won the holidays
Meet a flower shop owner in Edinburgh losing Valentine's and Mother's Day searches every year. Her profile was solid the other 363 days. On the two that mattered, customers couldn't tell if she was open or delivering.
The fix lived in two overlooked sections: attributes and special hours.
The playbook:
— Set special hours weeks ahead for every holiday — Google surfaces "holiday hours" prominently
— Tick every relevant attribute: "same-day delivery," "in-store pickup," "women-owned," "wheelchair accessible"
— Attributes feed filtered searches — "florist with delivery near me" only shows businesses that ticked it
— Add the "delivery" service area explicitly
— Refresh attributes seasonally as offerings change
We filled it all in January. For weeks, nothing — it wasn't holiday season yet.
Then Valentine's week hit. She surfaced for "same-day flower delivery Edinburgh" because she'd ticked the box competitors ignored, and her holiday hours reassured every searcher she was open. Orders up 45 percent over the prior year on that single week.
The lesson: attributes and special hours are silent ranking and filtering signals. The boxes you don't tick are the searches you don't appear in.
