Cleaning out bad traffic sources, step by step
Today: gently weeding your garden.
In push, your traffic comes from many small sites, each with an ID (often called a source or zone). Some send great clicks; some send junk. Blacklisting means telling your campaign to skip a bad source.
Here's the routine:
— 1. Let your campaign run until each source has spent a little money.
— 2. Open the per-source report.
— 3. Find sources that spent money but brought zero conversions.
— 4. Add those IDs to the blacklist.
— 5. Repeat every few days.
Don't blacklist after one bad click; give each source a fair sample first.
Try this: open any campaign's source report and just notice it exists. Next time, you'll know exactly where to prune.
