Why his 'number one' ranking was a lie

Why his 'number one' ranking was a lie

Meet a roofer in Leeds celebrating his number-one map ranking. He checked from his office every morning and there he was, top of the pack. Except his office sat in the city center, and his customers didn't.

We set up a real grid tracker.

The playbook:

— Stop checking from one location — local rankings change every few blocks
— Use a grid tool that pings your keyword from dozens of points across the service area
— Map the heat: green where you rank, red where you vanish
— Find the red zones — usually the affluent suburbs you most want
— Aim every fix (citations, reviews, service pages) at the red

The first grid scan was brutal. Number one downtown, invisible three miles out — exactly where the expensive roofs were.

We spent six weeks feeding the red zones. Slowly the map greened up. The suburb that mattered most went from rank 14 to rank 3. Quote requests for big jobs up 35 percent.

The lesson: a single-point ranking check is a comforting lie. The grid shows you where you actually exist — and where the money is hiding in the red.
