Two of my posts compete for the same keyword — how do I fix it?

Two of my posts compete for the same keyword — how do I fix it?

Q: I think two articles are cannibalizing each other. What's the fix process?

A: Short answer: pick a winner, demote or merge the other. Longer answer:

— Confirm it: in Search Console, filter by the query and see if it's bouncing between two URLs.
— Decide the canonical winner — usually the one with more links, traffic, or better intent match.
— If the pages overlap heavily: merge the loser's best parts in, then 301 it to the winner.
— If they're genuinely different intents: differentiate them. Retarget the weaker one to a sibling keyword and adjust title/H1.
— Re-point internal links so they all feed the winner.

Cannibalization is usually a planning gap — a keyword map prevents the next one.
