Q: An alert just fired. What's the first-5-minutes playbook before I panic?
A: Slow down and confirm before you wake people up.
— Verify it's real: open the site yourself from your phone on cellular (not office wifi, which may have its own DNS issue).
— Check the monitor's detail view: is it one region or all? One = network blip, all = real.
— Glance at status pages for your host, CDN and DNS provider. Their outage looks like yours.
— Acknowledge the alert so teammates know you're on it and it stops re-paging.
— Post a one-line note to your status page if it's been down 2+ minutes. Communicate early.
Follow-up: only escalate to the wider team once you've confirmed it's real and yours. Half of all 'outages' are a single flaky probe or someone's local network.
