Q: My team ignores alerts now. How do I run an alert-fatigue cleanup?
A: Do this audit once a quarter. Goal: every alert that fires should deserve a human's attention.
— Pull the last 30 days of alerts. Sort by monitor. Anything that fired 10+ times but caused zero action gets fixed or muted.
— Split alerts into two tiers: page-me-now (revenue, total outage) and tell-me-later (slow response, single-region blip).
— Route tier-two to a digest or a low-priority channel, not a phone.
— Add maintenance windows so deploys don't page anyone.
— Set escalation: if the first person doesn't ack in X minutes, then it widens.
Follow-up: track your acknowledge rate. If under 80% of pages get acked, you still have too many. Cut deeper.
