Which network throttle should you test on?
Throttling fakes a slower connection so you see what real visitors feel. DevTools offers 'Fast 4G', 'Slow 4G', and custom. Picking too fast hides problems; too slow scares you for no reason.
Think of it like choosing a treadmill incline that matches your real route.
When to use which:
— Matching what Google's score uses: 'Slow 4G', because PageSpeed Insights tests near that level.
— Checking a worst-case mobile user on the train: custom, even slower.
Try this: in DevTools open the Network tab, find the throttle dropdown (it says 'No throttling' by default), and pick 'Slow 4G'. Reload and watch. If the page holds up here, most real users are fine. Testing at full speed flatters you every time.
