Checklist: cleaning the junk a cross-poster leaves in your Threads text

Checklist: cleaning the junk a cross-poster leaves in your Threads text

Tested IFTTT-style auto cross-posting, then fixed the mess by hand on a real account for 8 days. The defaults look spammy.

— Kill auto-shortened links. Threads prefers raw URLs and unfurls them into cards; shortened ones don't.
— Remove platform @-mentions that don't exist on Threads. They show as plain broken text.
— Strip trailing "via @tool" attributions in settings, not by editing each post.
— Fix smart-quote and emoji encoding. Cross-posters often mangle curly quotes into mojibake.
— Re-insert line breaks. Most cross-posters flatten paragraphs into one wall.

The honest takeaway: dedicated tools (Buffer, Metricool) do this cleanly; generic automation (Zapier, IFTTT) does not. The standout dedicated feature is per-platform text. Annoying limit: even good tools can't fix Threads clipping captions at ~500 chars.

Verdict: Skip generic automation for Threads; the cleanup eats your time savings.
