What's the right way to refresh an old post — step by step?
Q: I want to update a 2-year-old article. What's the actual process?
A: Short answer: re-research first, edit second. Longer answer, my sequence:
— Re-check the current top 5 results. What angle/subtopics do they cover that you don't?
— Update the title and intent if search behavior shifted.
— Cut anything outdated or wrong. Removing weak sections helps as much as adding.
— Add 1-2 genuinely new sections, fresh examples, updated numbers with sources.
— Refresh images and add internal links to newer related posts.
— Update the modified date, and re-share/re-link it so crawlers notice.
Then give it 4-6 weeks. Don't refresh the same page again mid-cycle — you'll never know what worked.
Anyone want me to go deeper on this? React 👍
