Recording a clean faceless voiceover: 5-step setup
Faceless Shorts live and die on voice clarity. Nail the capture.
— Record in a soft room — closet with clothes beats an empty office for echo
— Phone mic 6-8 inches off-axis (talk past it, not into it) to kill plosives
— Do one 5-second silence take for noise-removal reference
— Post: noise reduction, then -200Hz high-pass, then gentle compression, then -3dB limiter
— Normalize to about -16 LUFS so it's loud enough on phones
Tools: Audacity (free) does the whole chain; ElevenLabs ($5/mo) only if you'd rather AI-voice it.
Verdict: a treated phone recording beats a cheap USB mic in a bare room. Skip the $100 mic until the room is fixed. Not for people who record in a tiled bathroom.
