Setting permalinks the right way (and the one trap)

A permalink is the web address of a single page, like yoursite.com/about. Good ones are short and readable, which helps both people and search engines.

1. Go to Settings, Permalinks.
2. Choose "Post name." Your links become clean words, not ?p=123.
3. Click Save Changes.

The trap: never change this on a site that's been live for a while. Every old link would break and show a Not Found page. If you must change it later, you'll need redirects (signposts pointing old links to new ones).

So set it once, early, on day one, and leave it.

In plain words: pick clean web addresses at the very start, because changing them later breaks every link you've ever shared.
