Your mysqldump is probably corrupt and you'd never know
A database dump that can't reimport is a text file, not a backup. Do it right:
— Dump with a consistent snapshot flag, not a live read mid-write
— Include routines, triggers, and events, people forget all three
— Immediately reimport into a scratch DB, every single run
— Compare table counts and a checksum on your biggest table
— Alert if the reimport throws even one warning
If your dump job exits 0 but you never reimport, you're backing up Schrodinger's database. Change my mind.
