Building your first navigation menu, step by step

The menu is the row of links at the top of your site. New sites often show every page automatically, which gets messy. Take control.

1. First create the pages you want linked (Home, About, Contact).
2. Go to Appearance, Menus.
3. Type a name like "Main Menu" and click Create Menu.
4. On the left, tick the pages you want, then "Add to Menu."
5. Drag items up or down to reorder. Drag one slightly right to make it a drop-down child item.
6. Under "Menu Settings," tick your theme's primary location, then Save.

In plain words: a menu is a list you build by hand, so visitors only see the doors you want them to open.
