The recipe for one real personalization line
Popular advice: "Reference their recent post to show you did homework." Myth — "Loved your post on X!" is homework theater and reads worse than no line at all. A real one follows a recipe:
— Observation: a specific thing they said or did, quoted or paraphrased tight.
— Tension: why it connects to a problem they have, not a compliment.
— Bridge: one clause linking it to why you're writing.
Three parts, one sentence, no exclamation marks. If the line praises them instead of revealing you understood the problem, you wrote flattery, not relevance.
