The empty services tab

The empty services tab

Meet an HVAC contractor in Sacramento with a flawless profile and one blind spot — the Services section was completely empty. He didn't even know it existed.

That tab is a keyword goldmine almost nobody fills.

The playbook:

— List every service as its own entry, not a generic "HVAC"
— Use the exact phrases people search: "AC repair," "furnace replacement," "ductless mini split install"
— Write a 2-3 sentence description under each, naming the service and the city
— Add custom services Google's preset list misses
— Mirror these phrases on your website so they reinforce

We filled 22 services in one afternoon. Then the usual wait — two flat weeks.

Week three his profile started surfacing for searches he'd never ranked for: "mini split install near me," "emergency furnace repair." Long-tail searches he'd been invisible for now sent 25 extra calls a month.

The lesson: the Services menu is structured text Google reads as relevance signals. An empty tab is a stack of rankings you're handing to competitors.
