A checklist for reading buyer-intent signals on LinkedIn

A checklist for reading buyer-intent signals on LinkedIn

The question: which engagement signals actually predict a buyer entering a cycle, versus passive lurking?

Buyer behavior research (Gartner, 6sense) consistently finds B2B buyers complete most of their journey anonymously — Gartner's oft-cited figure is that buyers spend only ~17% of the cycle with sales. The signals are subtle and mostly silent.

The checklist, ranked by predictive weight:
— Profile views from multiple people at one account in a short window (a buying committee forming).
— Saves over likes — saving is private intent, liking is public performance.
— Repeat viewers of your case-study and pricing content specifically.
— Comments that ask 'how' rather than offering opinion.
— A dormant connection suddenly re-engaging after months.

Limitations: LinkedIn restricts who-viewed data, so multi-stakeholder signals are partly inferred. Saves aren't exposed at the post level. Treat the ranking as directional, not measured.

What it means for B2B: the loudest engagers are rarely the buyers — the buyers are the quiet, repeat viewers of your bottom-funnel content.

Bottom line: build an alert system around saves and account-clustered views, not the vanity of likes.
