A playbook for seeding unlinked brand mentions that LLMs can ingest
Research on entity recognition suggests co-occurrence of a brand with its topic across many sources shapes how models 'know' you — links optional. Here's an outreach sequence.
— Step 1: list the 20 sources AI tools cite most for your niche (check which domains appear in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers for your queries).
— Step 2: prioritize those that already mention competitors but not you. That gap is your target.
— Step 3: pitch contributions that pair your brand name with your core entity in the same sentence, repeatedly across the piece.
— Step 4: ensure consistent naming — one canonical brand string everywhere, no variants. Inconsistent strings split the entity.
— Step 5: track whether your brand starts surfacing in AI answers over 8–12 weeks.
Method note: based on logging which domains appear as citations in Perplexity/ChatGPT for a fixed query set, repeated weekly.
Caveat: this is observational; we can't isolate mentions from other signals, and citation sourcing is opaque and changes without notice.
Confidence: low
