LinkedIn newsletter vs regular feed posts
Everyone says: "Launch a newsletter, every subscriber gets a notification — guaranteed reach."
The claim: newsletters are a distribution hack with a captive audience.
What's actually true: the launch notification fires once to your existing connections, and that's the spike everyone screenshots. After that, open rates settle into the same 20-40% inbox reality as any email, and the feed barely surfaces newsletter editions.
Use a newsletter when you have long-form depth that dies in the feed and you want an owned subscriber list as insurance. Don't use it as a reach engine — it's slower than your normal posts after week one.
It's not a growth lever. It's a retention asset disguised as one. Credit where due: the owned-list part is real.
