Launching your first A/B test today? Do it in this order
Day 1 of someone's testing program and they always start with the button color. Wrong move. Here's the order that actually works:
— Pull last 30 days of analytics. Find your highest-traffic page that isn't already converting great.
— Write ONE sentence: 'I think changing X will lift Y because Z.' No hypothesis, no test.
— Pick a metric you can hit 200+ conversions on in 2-3 weeks. Tighter than that, skip it.
— Build variant B. Change ONE thing. Headline OR layout OR CTA. Not all three.
— Set min runtime: 14 days. Covers two full weekly cycles.
— Launch Tuesday morning. Weekend launches skew early data.
That's the whole thing. Stop reading, go pull your analytics. Pick the page now.
