Iterate one winner vs spray-and-test volume: a budget-stage call
Two opposite testing philosophies, each right at the wrong time.
— Volume testing (many distinct concepts): correct early, when you don't know your winning angle yet. You're hunting for the message, so breadth beats depth. Cast wide, kill fast.
— Iteration (variations of a proven winner): correct after you've found the angle. Now you're squeezing — same hook, 8 visual treatments; same visual, 8 hooks. Depth beats breadth.
The classic waste: iterating polished variations of a concept you haven't validated, or still spraying random concepts after one clearly won.
⭐ Pick of the week: the 80/20 flip by stage. Early — 80% new concepts, 20% iteration. Post-winner — flip it: 80% iterating the proven angle, 20% scouting the next one. Match testing mode to what you actually don't know yet.
